Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island - Relax on Island Time

Magnetic Island claims to have on Average 320 days of sunshine per year, although it is near the wet tropics, Magnetic Island is in a ‘rain shadow’ (Don’t ask us what that means, we are just relaying the message) which makes it the sunniest area on the whole Queensland Coast. So, pack your sunscreen, there is a 89.8876% chance you will need it! Famous for its giant granite boulders, this place is a wonderland of hidden beach coves that can all be accessed by these quirky little convertible cars. If you are looking for instagram Content, this place will do wonders!

Date dependant, this quiet little island also plays host to the famous “Full Moon Parties” (Now called Island Life Parties) so if raving all night on the beach is your thing, I’m sure we can find some like minded people around!

GVH’s insider tip

Magnetic Island has been a horse-riding hot spot for over 30 years. Horseshoe Bay Ranch has been providing experiences for beginners and pros. Riders travel through the native bush to Horseshoe Bay beach with an experienced guide on hand to assist.

Fun fact

Magnetic Island was also named by Captain Cook. He said the compass ‘would not travis well when near it’ Since then, people have tried to uncover why it happened with various instruments (including old compasses). However, there’s still no real conclusion as to why Magnetic Island was/is so magnetic. So my guess is his compass was just Captain Cooked.
