Heather from Salty Lotus was kind enough to answer a few questions on what she considers the best things to do in Jervis Bay. We are convinced, it is time for a trip to the South Coast of NSW!

As Gold Coast locals, we love Cabarita Beach as a super quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the City. The perfect spot for a morning surf or afternoon drink.

Taiwan is awesome. It both astounds and confounds. The island is small but big enough to get lost on. There are waves on three and a half coasts. Gorgeous scenery. Dozens of breaks, and expansive swell windows.

Manly, Sydney Manly is widely regarded as the birthplace of surfing in Australia and to this day is widely regarded as a hotbed of board

I did no research on the places we were staying, so it came as quite the surprise when we checked into one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen.. The Lind Boracay
Invented in Hawaii in the late 1700s, Surfing has become a favourite for ocean dwellers across the globe. Learning to surf comes with it’s own unique hurdles that everyone must conquer to enjoy the thrill that comes with carving up the wild seas. From getting smashed from a dumping wave, to learning to read the currents and build paddle fitness, Surfing is not for quitters! Once you get up on that first proper wave, there’s a 99% chance you will forever be hooked! Every Surfer has that one wave that really sucked them in for a lifetime of chasing that feeling once again! The East Coast of Australia just so happens to be home to some of the best surf breaks in the world! With more than 4 locations listed on the World Surf League tour locations, it is hard to argue for a better coast line of unlimited surf options!
Popular surfing spots include:
Did you know there are over 33 thousand species of fish in the world? Scientists are still discovering on average 250 new species every year! Us humans have done a pretty good job of destroying what mother nature has to offer on land so inquisitive people get involved in diving and snorkeling.
Most of us have spent a good few hours on the couch watching the King, Sir David Attenborough, explain the wondrous features of animals and mammals we have never even seen before! But getting amongst it is the only way to truly appreciate how amazing this planet really is. The world’s biggest living organism, The Great Barrier Reef, is conveniently located on a small boat trip off the North East coast of Australia but if we don’t curve global warming, that may not be the case within 20 years.
The first thing humanity needs to do is to see and understand global warming individually and what better way than to go diving and explore the beautiful but fragile ocean ecosystem. Other quality diving locations around Australia include:
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and its gaining traction in Australia because of its temperate waters and constant sunny weather. It’s popular because it has so much scope and has its benefits for anyone who wants to try it.
It’s much easier than learning how to surf and people find it extremely comforting. SUP is great for getting some fitness in and building some strength. Some consider it one of the world’s most universal sports because anyone can pick it up. Whether you’re short, clumsy, or not a fitness freak, you can pick up the skills in no time.
Australia has about 35 000 kilometres of coastline and there are few better ways to explore it than paddling along in a kayak. Seeing things from the water level in a kayak is an unforgettable experience. There are too many kayaking spots to count on the east coast of Australia. Some of them are along the coast and others run in and amongst the rivers inside the towns like veins.
The water intensity can vary from mild to wild and any kayaker of any experience level can enjoy this activity. Your risk of falling is zero to none and when you go kayaking, you can even pack snacks! Here are some of the best kayak trips that are a must-see:
After all this time spent indoors, we know that good vibe hunters are on the prowl for fresh air and long walks. There are thousands of well-maintained hiking trails in Australia. Many of them are in protected parks and some of them can be found in nature. This activity is one of the easiest to take part in because it’s free and easily accessible. GVH has done the research and spent the time to round up a short list of the most famous trails in the country. Some of them will have you walking wild islands, past clifftop waterfalls or along sandy coastlines.
The word ‘Yoga’ itself is derived from a root word that directly translates to ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’. Essentially, yoga signifies union and that’s also what we encourage on a GVH tour.
Yoga isn’t just for those who want to take pretty Instagram pictures in trendy activewear, and it is definitely not only reserved for flexible people. Whoever you are, you might need and enjoy yoga. Practising Yoga can help to improve your strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance but it can also help with internal health.
It’s proven to reduce stress, improve mental health, and help those who practise it build a greater sense of gratitude for themselves and for life. There are many spots along the way that combine the benefits of yoga with the beauty of nature and that’s why sunrise beach yoga is a thing. Experience this relaxing activity with iconic locations and ocean views as your backdrop. There are many yoga instructors who offer indoor & outdoor classes for people of all experience levels. If you’re interested in trying it, here are a few suggestions
True sailing is one of the most soul filling experiences, using the natural wind to propel you on your journey with no engine assistance comes with a feeling of satisfaction that is very difficult to replicate in any other activity.
Sailing anywhere is amazing, but sailing the Whitsundays, is a once in a lifetime experience. The Whitsundays provide a cocktail of clear aquamarine waters, pearly white beaches, and forested islands all while floating on the underwater wonderland of the Great Barrier Reef. Boats are sheltered by the reef, there’s a constant cool breeze that refreshes all aboard and the waters are always calm which is the perfect condition for sailing. Most boats follow a similar route and it’s a trip to Whitehaven beach combined with the opportunity to snorkel or dive on the reef, on the way.
Fishing is about creating a deep, peaceful connection with nature and some consider it a bit of an art. Naturally, Australia would be a popular fishing destination because the beaches are never-ending and offer endless opportunities.
It has the world’s largest reef and countless estuaries, creeks, and rivers. Cairns is one of the black marlin capitals of the world. 70% of the world’s black marlin is caught there. The warm waters right next to the world’s largest reef are teeming with huge game fish because it’s incredibly rich with bait fish. Species include yellow-fin tuna, wahoo, Spanish mackerel and mahi mahi. Saltwater fishing in Australia is also equally rewarding and so is flats fishing or rock fishing.
These are all popular pursuits, and every fisher person is welcomed whether you fish with bait, spin a lure, or cast a fly.
